OUR COMMITMENT TO THE ENVIRONMENT
“Promotion of shared projects aimed at analysing and reducing the environmental footprint of the dried egg pasta industry”

In 2012, our Pasta Factory signed the first Voluntary Agreement in the Italian dried egg pasta sector with the Italian Ministry of the Environment for a project aimed at calculating, reducing and offsetting the greenhouse gases emitted during the production cycle of our leading products.

This Voluntary Agreement has been renewed with specific reference to three categories of products: nests in the 250g, 320g and 500g formats.

In particular, the following types of egg pasta were considered:

For the 250g format

Tagliatelle

Casarecce

Chitarrine

Fettuccine

Paglia e fieno

Pappardelle

Tagliatelline

Tagliolini

Zigrinate.

For the 320g format

For the 500g format

Maccheroncini

Pappardella riccia

Pappardelle

Pappardelle zigrinate

With the help of the company’s technical staff and under the supervision of the Italian Ministry of the Environment, the investigation led to results that were then certified by the Bureau Veritas body.

Thestudy, carried out according to ISO 14040, ISO 14044 and ISO 14067:2018 standards, took into consideration the entire production chain, i.e. the equivalent CO2 emitted throughout the entire life cycle of the products.

OVERVIEW

Below is a summary of the study of the Carbon Footprint of Egg Pasta, specifically the 250g, 320g and 500g formats, packaged in polystyrene or cardboard trays, wrapped in a transparent film.

The potential contribution to the greenhouse effect deriving from the climate-changing gases emitted during the phases of the product’s life cycle, calculated using 1 kg of Luciana Mosconi egg pasta and its packaging as a reference, is shown for each format in the following tables:

CFP of egg pasta in the 250g format

CFP of egg pasta in the 320g format

CFP of egg pasta in the 500g format

Certification of results

The obtained results were certified by the Bureau Veritas body on 12 July 2019, which examined the LCA study and verified, on a sample basis, the correctness of both the CO2 equivalent value relative to the emission factors and the counting procedure.

Offsetting for this study

Emissions were offset through the purchase of carbon credits for the reforestation project in Uruguay, for an amount of 3,384 tCO2eq, equal to the emissions related to the production, distribution, storage, use and disposal processes of all nest products in the 250g, 320g and 500g formats in the year 2018.
